In 2021 the Sydney Symphony Fellowship Program celebrates its 20th anniversary. Roger Benedict has been Artistic Director of the program since the beginning and is proud to have helped it grow into one of the leading orchestral training programs in the world. Up to 16 Fellowships are awarded annually. A Fellowship with the Sydney Symphony provides access to the nation’s best orchestral mentors and leading conductors, as well as masterclasses with the finest international artists and the benefit of a thorough approach to the final stages of training for musicians of the future. Through an intensive one-year fellowship integrating chamber music, mentored orchestral playing, specially designed workshops and outreach work, the program aims to offer a vital stepping stone from study to work, and prepare musicians as thoroughly as possible for their future careers.  Alumni of the program have won positions in all the Australian orchestras as well as in the Concertgebouw, Leipzig Gewandhaus and London Philharmonic Orchestras.
